Why We Recommend

Forget all the pomp and circumstance perpetuated by many West Coast wineries. Here at Good Harbor Vineyards, there is one overarching philosophy: People should be able to afford to drink good wine every day.   And after nearly 40 years in the business, this winery offers plenty to chose from. Over the years, the viticulture team has skillfully determined which grapes perform best at each growing site among the 70 acres at the winery and hundreds more elsewhere on the peninsula. In short, they’ve cracked the code on the mosaic of Michigan soils. The results are refined wines, that are affordable to all.   As expected, the tasting room at Good Harbor offers a cozy, mellow atmosphere. The helpful staff guides you to discover what you like, not what you “should.” Guests can enjoy 5 tastings for $5 and leave with a souvenir glass to bring back for future, free tastings. Locals are partial to the Fishtown White, a wine made here for decades that offers aromas of apple, pineapple and florals. Catch a buzz and forget what a winery is “supposed” to be like, and instead enjoy the down-to-earth magic of this friendly place.
The re-education continues off the tasting room, where visitors can take a self-guided tour of the winery cellar and bottling room and learn insider wisdom about the winemaking process. In the often-secretive and competitive winery industry, this gesture makes this special Michigan winery feel even more like home. No velvet rope needed.
Good Harbor Vineyards is the perfect stop over while exploring the charm of Leelanau Peninsula. The tasting room is located across from Good Harbor Bay, and near some of the most iconic beaches in the area. It is just 3 miles from the historic and well-preserved fishing village called Fishtown in Leland, MI. Plus, it’s the perfect nightcap to a day of drinking in the scenery at the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, which has earned the title “most beautiful place in America.”
We hope Good Harbor Vineyards continues to rewrite the script on the ideal winery experience. Good wine, every day, without breaking the bank. We’ll drink to that!
