Why We Recommend

Imagine the pride of a parent who watches his young food truck grow up and graduate to a brick and mortar restaurant? Simon Joseph knows the feeling. Though hardly considered training wheels, Joseph’s popular Roaming Harvest food truck proved so stable, it morphed a second location, putting down roots in downtown Traverse City under the shortened name Harvest. It goes without saying, this restaurant is the best thing ever to happen to the alley behind Front Street. At Harvest, the focus is on cultivating: cultivating American comfort food, cultivating relationships with local farmers and cultivating a sense of community with residents and visitors. Everything here is hip, from the “open industrial” vibe—complete with exposed rafters—to the curiously eclectic art (case in point: that crazy map illustration.) And let’s talk about the illuminating menu, brilliantly displayed on two flat screens. The menu is divided into three drool-worthy sections: Street Food Favorites (think: falafel), Maybe Just a Snack (tangy cubed street beets with wasabi mayo) and an ever changing lineup of seasonal entrees called Here Today, Gone Tomorrow. Whatever you choose, it promises to be delicious, fresh and local. People love that Harvest serves up affordable food, with flavors that don’t scrimp. Plus, there are plenty of choices for vegetarians, from salads with rhubarb vinaigrette to samosas with coriander chutney. The flavors are big, and the smiles even bigger.  Seating for 35 in this local Traverse City favorite fills up fast. But like growing up, some things are worth the wait!
